Formula Windsurfing Euro Cup

Wojtek Brzozowski (POL) won the Euro Cup event that just finished in Miedzyzdroje, Poland. Dorota Staszewska (POL) won the women's event.
It was really exciting final day of the event. After rainy morning the wind came from south with the growing speed from 10 to 20 knots in the last race. The deadline for the last possible start was 2:30 pm. Many competitors needed 7th race to have two worst races discarded. The 7th race started at 11:30 am but was stopped by the race organisers after several minutes because the wind speed drops below the limit. Wojtek (POL) and Jamie Lever (GBR) were on the lead when the race was abandoned. The wind with speed 14 knots return after one hour and the 7th race was restarted. It was the worst race for Wojtek I have ever seen. He was blocked on the start and finished on 23rd place! Janne Rauhansuu (FIN) finished first, Ross Wiliams (GBR) was second and Sam Ireland (CAN) third.

Ten racers were disqualified because of premature start, among them Brian Rogild (DEN) and Jesper Vesterstorm (DEN). This changed the final results somewhat. Discarding his 7th and 23rd place Wojtek was still leading. The last, eight race started just before the deadline and we have seen the impressive fight between two top racers of the event Antoine and Wojtek. Antoine after an excellent start was first to the upwind mark with Wojtek just after him. On the second lap Wojtek took the lead but after some mistakes dropped to 4th place, but finished finally in second just after Antoine. Jamie Lever was third and Steve Allen (AUS) fourth.

It was not lucky race for Arnon Dagan (ISR). Yesterday a crazy police chopper flying 10 meters over our beach damaged several sails. One of the damaged sails belonged to Arnon and it was the sail he needed for this race with 20 knots. On the start line Arnon had a collision with another guy and lost his special windsurfing glasses. Half "blind" and with too big sail Arnon he finished 42nd. The Race Committee gave Arnon redress (average of his results).

In the women's fleet both races were won by Dorota Staszewska, and she became the winner of the event with Anna Graczyk (POL) second and Christine Becker (GER) third.

At 4 pm we had the closing ceremony with first three ladies and Wojtek, Antoine and Sam Ireland on the podium. Polish Olympian from Sydney Przemek Miarczynski was fourth, and Steve Allen fifth.

After wining Calgiari and Miedzyzdroje Euro-Cup events Wojtek has a strong lead on the overall cup ranking.
