As the defending nation in the Women's event, Australia receives direct entry to the ISAF Grade 1 Grand Final, which will be held by the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Ireland from 5-9 September 2006. Meanwhile the Men's team will compete at the ISAF Grade 2 Oceania Regional Final in Auckland, New Zealand from 19-24 April, in the quest for a Grand Final berth.
At the Regional Finals, up to ten entries in each division (open and women) will be accepted, on a first come first served basis. MNA's will be allocated to Regional Finals by ISAF on a regional basis as far as possible.

The closing date for MNA's to apply for a place at a Regional Final and for the current holders of the Nations Cup for men and women and the host nation of the Grand Final, Ireland to confirm their participation at the Grand Final is 15 December 2005. After that date individual skipper entries from Nations whose MNA has not applied for a place will be considered and that entry must be subsequently endorsed by their MNA.
