Jochen Schuman wins the Coppa Dei Campioni in Porto Cervo, Italy. He beat Mc Kee (USA) in the Final, 2-0. Third place went to Ben Ainslie (USA) against Iain Percy (GBR)2-0.
German sailor and great olympians Jochen Schuman has dominated the Coppa dei Campioni Publitel 2001, winning the final series 2-0 against the North American Charlie McKee. This event was the first match race with 8 olympic sailing medallists. Ben Ainslie finished third and Iain Percy fourth.
The finals were contested in strong winds (more then 20 knots), with both winners winning by a big margin.
Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Commodore Gianfranco Alberini presented the prize giving, which was held on the sea, onboard the Isle Boat, with a pasta and champagne party. The first and second places received a check recpectively of 15.000 and 5.000 USD.
