Under the banner of "Your Nautical Network" the new site offers a great deal of functionality and new features, including various searches to assist the sailing public. These searches will assist individuals in finding their nearest club, instructor or training establishment throughout Australia. All the information in these searches is obtained from the AYF's database, ensuring that the most up to date information is available to the public. Clubs or event managers seeking officials for their next event will be able to utilise the officials search, which lists those who are judges, measurers, race officers and umpires, including their level of attainment, be it state, national or international.
"The new site is part of the on-going development of our IT platform," said AYF CEO Phil Jones. "As the national body for sailing in Australia, we are aiming to provide greater services to our members and stakeholders through advanced technologies. This is phase one of the IT plan. Future development will see additional membership services online, and more facilities for the general public looking to get into boating." Other features of the new site include a chat room and a more informative and useful calendar. The AYF's popular news site will continue in a similar fashion, whilst further information is available in the areas of training and high performance sailing.
"The general public will now be able to learn a lot more about sailing from this website," said Mr Jones. "The new searches will be a big advantage for anyone with inquiries on our clubs, classes, training establishments or instructors. However, whilst the information is the most up to date data available to us, we are relying on the boating public to assist us build our knowledge base with information such as club facilities."
