The very strong wind from east left the organizers with a very tough job on their hands and eventually only one day of racing was possible.
In the men's 470 fleet consisting of 31 crews, and the 16 strong women's 470 fleet, two races were sailed on Saturday with winds of 13 m/s and big waves. The British team John GIMSON and Stuart BITHELL took the men's honours with Giulia CONTI and Giovanna MICOL finishing as top women.
On the leeward course area, the men's Laser and women's Laser Radial fleets sailed two races in similar conditions. Michele REGOLO won in the Laser with two bullets, whilst the Laser Radial crown went to Lidia NOTO.
Due to safety concerns no races were sailed in the 420s.
Despite the poor weather the Porto Maurizio Yacht Club and LNI Imperia, with the cooperation of Circolo Velico Imperiese, did a excellent job of hosting the regatta. Next year the event is looking to expand with the dates for 2006 set as 7-10 December.
