There was good racing yesterday with 3 races for all classes. Lovely sunshine, plenty of north-east breeze to start with. A Major wind shift occured after the 2nd race, however the wind stayed more than 8 knots throughout the 3rd race.
It was a difficult day for sailors as they had to play with the shifts all day, but it tested their racing skills well.
The Mistral class had 3 races. There was a little confusion during Race 8 (third race today) when the fleet sailed an inner loop. Some sailors did not know how to round the gate mark at the bottom of the loop. The results for race 8 are still preliminary. Final results will be posted tomorrow morning.
It is very exciting in the 470s. Sanbu/Takamura (Honda) won the Race 7 while Seki/Todoroki (Kanto Auto) and Ishibashi/Goto (Miyagi SF) had a bad time. However, it reversed during Race 8, and Race 9 became really tight between these three boats. Seki won the Race 9, and stayed ahead of Sanbu, but only 5 points. Two more races are scheduled tomorrow, and after 10 races, two discards. Three of them have a chance to win, and the top four boats are within 10 points.
The Europe class saw a new winner for Race 8. Izumi Shinchi (Kagawa SF) finished 1st. The wind got lighter and fluky during that race, and Izumi was clever enough to pick up good puff to get away from Maiko Sato (Chubu Gas). Maiko is winning the regatta, but it is good for everyone to challenge her each race.
Two more races are scheduled tomorrow (final day).
