Optimist Oceanian Championship

After five races Teiki Hacheche (TAH) is leading the Optimist Oceanian Championship taking place in Papeete, French Polynesia. From New Caledonia in second is Corentini Guegan, and Yann Rigal (TAH) is in third position.
With Tahiti, France (NC = New Caledonia) and New Zealand at a higher standard than the rest of the islands, an interesting competition is emerging for the "best of the rest" where Sam Greig of the Cook Islands is leading from Joe Swann of Fiji. A total of nine countries are entered.

A coaching course sponsored by the World Youth Sailing Trust was conducted before the event and for many the whole regatta is a learning curve.

Results, top 10, after 5 races:

1 TAH Teiki Hacheche 16 pts
2 NC Corentin Guegan 24 pts
3 TAH Yann Rigal 33 pts
4 TAH Emeric Viaris de Lesegno 38 pts
5 NC Gael Blanquart 38 pts
6 NZL Philip Robertson 41 pts
7 TAH Ewen Morin 50 pts
8 NZL Garth Ellingham 51 pts
9 NZL Adam Emarali 54 pts
10 NZL James Williamson 55 pts
