DE BARROS Victorious In Cascais
Portuguese Dragon National Championship 2005
Cascais, Portugal
From the 25-28 August, Clube Naval de Cascais hosted the Portuguese Dragon Championship with the title going to Patrick MONTEIRO DE BARROS, Pedro BECKRD and Paulo BASTOS after a closely contested series.
Eleven teams contested the Championship, completing all seven scheduled races in the north winds that are so famous in Cascais and which are sure to feature when the ISAF World Sailing Championship takes place in July 2007.
The Championship went down to the wire with MONTEIRO DE BARROS, BECKRD and BASTOS one point ahead of José BELLO, Pedro VOZONE and Francisco MOURÃO going into the final race. The two teams were neck a neck all through the race before MONTEIRO DE BARROS, BECKRD and BASTOS pulled out a slight the lead to take the bullet by half a boat's length and with it the Championship.
Behind the leading pair, Franciosco PINHEIRO DE MELO, Vicente PINHEIRO DE MELO and Francisco QUINA won the battle for bronze by taking third in the final race.
