The first ever European Youth Sailing Games has been awarded by the European Sailing Federation (EUROSAF) to the Fraglia Vela Riva del Garda, Italy, and will take place from 7-12 August 2011.
This is the first of what is planned to become an annual event and is intended to widen the opportunity for youth sailors, from across Europe, to experience international competition in a multi-class event.
The ISAF Youth Worlds is seen as the pinnacle event for international youth sailing and through the introduction of a Continental Championship EUROSAF
will allow European MNAs to send teams of up to 12 sailors, in six separate disciplines to gain valuable experience of international competition.
The equipment to be used at the European Youth Sailing Games is:
Boy's One Person Dinghy - Byte CII
Girl's One Person Dinghy - Byte CII
Open Skiff - 29er
Open Multihull - SL 16
Boy's Windsurfer - BIC Techno 293
Girl's Windsurfer - BIC Techno 293
Entries will be limited, so will be accepted on a first serve bases. The age limit will be under 19 on 31 December 2011.
Thanks to the generous co-operation of boat builders Nautivela (Byte CII) and
Ovington (29er) a limited number of charter boats will be available.
All competitors will have the option of bringing their own equipment. Discussions are currently in progress concerning the availability of charter boats from Sirena Voile (SL16) and boards from BIC.
The Race Office opens on Sunday 7 August and racing will commence on Tuesday 9 August, with a practice race being held on Monday 8 August. The series will be sailed over a variety of courses and there will be an overall winner in each class, as well as an overall national team.
The Notice of Race and associated entry form will be published shortly and sent to all EUROSAF members. A detailed press release will be published in the near future.
