Exciting Final Day In Prospect At Musto Skiff World Championship
Daniel Henderson
Henderson Regains Overall Lead

Musto Performance Skiff
Port Phillip Bay, Australia

Daniel Henderson regained the lead at the 2011 Musto Performance Skiff World Championship with first and third place finishes in Race 8 and 9.
Following a postponement ashore, the first start of Race 8 got under way at 13:30 local time. This was promptly general recalled by the race management team and the fleet returned to try again.

Heavy rain on the previous day meant that a current was flowing out of the Melbourne River, causing the fleet to be pushed over early.

The second attempt to start was under black flag, and again, the sailors were pushed by the current. PRO Mark Taylor took the sensible decision not to penalise any sailors, as a significant number were over, and it would be difficult to count every boat.
Race 8 got away at the third attempt under black flag. Ian Renilson (GBR) led at the top mark, closely followed by Iver Ahlmann (GER), Dan Ward (GBR,) Jonathan Neate (AUS) and Jonathon Newman (AUS).

The breeze began to drop to a point close to the class minimum but just stayed on the good side. And after a wind shift Renilson continued to lead the fleet around the next lap. But Daniel Henderson (GBR) slipped through to take the win from Bruce Keen (GBR) with Renilson having to settle for third.

The fleet got away at the first attempt in Race 9 with Henderson leading a group including his closest rival, Marcus Hamilton (AUS), Keen, Ahlmann and Julian Ramm.

Henderson continued to lead at the windward mark with the top seven boats separated by only 15 seconds. But Ahlmann pulled through on the final downwind leg to take the win from fellow countryman Ramm and at the same time giving the German sailors their first first and second finish at the World Championship. And Henderson finished third with Hamilton back in eighth.

Nine out of 12 race series have been sailed with racing to come to an end tomorrow.
