In the women's 470 Jo Aleh and Bianca Barbarich-Bacher (NZL) won gold today after finishing fourth in the medal for a point's total of 64. Ai Kondo and Wakako Tabata (JPN) finished one place behind the Kiwis in the Medal Race and picked up the silver medal.
The Japanese duo lead the 470 standings for the majority of the week but a disappointing penultimate day for them handed the initiative to the New Zealanders who finished the job today and won by ten points. Israel's Gil Cohen and Bouskila Vered won the bronze medal.
Only two points separated the three front runners in the Laser heading into the Medal Race. Whoever finished ahead between Paul Goodison (GBR), Tom Slingsby (AUS) and Nick Thompson (GBR) would win the gold medal.
And it was Goodison that finished in front of his nearest rivals. His third place finish in the Medal Race gave him a points total of 44. Slingsby finished fifth in the Medal Race, he ended on 47 points and Thompson came a disappointing seventh, but his 53 points were enough to give him the bronze medal.
Marina Alabau (ESP) has been in great form all week in the women's RS:X and she capped off a great week with a second place finish in the Medal Race to end with 24 points and a winning margin of 17 points.
Ricard Eugenie (FRA) won the Medal Race but she finished seventh overall. Compatriot Charline Picon claimed silver and Alessandra Sensini (ITA) picked up the bronze.
In the men's RS:X Dorian Van Rijsselberge (NED) has been in similar form to Alabau throughout the week and won the gold medal by 18 points.
Nick Dempsey (GBR), who had been pushing van Rijsselberge hard all week, had a frustrating final day and finished last in the Medal Race. He looked to have a silver medal all sewn up heading into the Medal Race but Tom Ashley (NZL) came third to leapfrog Dempsey and grab the silver medal. Dempsey had to settle with bronze.
Sally Barkow (USA) defeated Silja Lehtinen (FIN) in the Women's Match Racing Final to claim the gold medal. Barkow overcame the Finn 3-1 in the Final after losing the first match. Anna Tunnicliffe won the bronze medal after beating Claire Leroy (FRA) in the Petit Final.
In the men's 470 Nicolas Charbonnier and Jeremie Mion (FRA) finished third in the Medal Race to comprehensively win the gold medal with a points margin of 15 separating themselves and compatriots Pierre Leboucher and Vincent Garos in second place. Great Britain's Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell finished one point behind Leboucher and Garos to clinch the bronze.
