WILLIM Claims Italian Title

Zanoletti Trophy 2005
Lake Como, Italy

After three days of match racing on Lake Como, Italy, Andreas WILLIM (GER) came away with the ISAF Grade 3 Zanoletti Trophy, defeating New Zealand’s Simon MINOPRIO in the final.
The event was organized and managed by AVAL-CDV Centro Vela Alto Lario from 22-24 July. Early on in the regatta it became apparent that the two main contestants for the final were WILLIM and MINOPRIO and they lived up to expectations ending the second day all square, having scored seven race wins each.

The direct confrontation between the two competitors took place in the 20th flight. WILLIM prevailed by the narrowest of margins to take the title with a 100% record.

Competing against WILLIM and MINOPRIO were two Italian teams, one from Poland, one from France, a Brazilian team, a Slovenian one and two Swiss crews.

The regatta was umpired by a team of first class officials, with the Piero OCCHETTO (ITA) acting as Chief Umpire, supported by Bruce HEBBERT (GBR), Bill O’HARA (IRL) and another four Italian Umpires.

The four sailboats used for racing were Benetau 25s.

The Slovenian team of Jure OREL finished in third overall.
