The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) is pleased to report that the IOC Olympic Solidarity department has confirmed that the Federacao Mocambicana de la Vela e Canoagem (Mozambique Sailing Federation) will host a Level 3 Technical Course for Coaches from 25 -31 July 2011.
The course will take place ahead of All African Games in Maputo this September, thanks to $12,000 USD in funding from their National Olympic Committee.
This event will be open to coaches from all over Africa and will focus on what is required for all ISAF MNAs taking part in the All African Games Sailing Regatta as well as helping to develop ways in which ISAF member nations in Africa can develop their national Learn to Sail Training Programmes in line with Internationally recognized standards.
If you are a coach affiliated to an Africa ISAF Member National Authority who wishes to know more about how to get on this course then please gets in touch with the ISAF Training and Development Department here
. There will be a limited number of travel grants available for coaches which will pay up to $250 towards travel to Maputo from within Africa.
The level 3 Technical Course for Coaches aims to teach the participating coaches the basic understanding of the skill involved in Race Coaching. The candidates will all be competent sailors and racers who wish to pass on their skills and knowledge to up and coming racers. This course will cover the skills to run effective coaching sessions and includes practical workshops on powerboat handling, land drills, video skills, coaching tactics and rules and theory sessions on basic coaching, learning styles, psychology, physiology and team management in a large regatta setting.
Over the last two years ISAF has helped more than 15 MNAs out of a total of 133 ISAF MNA's (numbers correct as of March 2011) organise Coach training initiatives, accessing a total of over $250,000 in funding from the IOC through National Olympic Committees (NOC's).
ISAF is working very closely with IOC Olympic Solidarity in helping Member National Authorities develop relationships with NOC's and for more information on how your national sailing federation can get the most out of IOC funding why not visit the related Olympic.org website page here.
