ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship

ISAF is now inviting bids to host the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships from 2015 onwards.
The ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship is ISAFs longest running event, having taken place every year since the first championships hosted by Sweden in 1971.

The event has been held in 24 countries over the past 41 years. The 41st anniversary edition took place from 7 - 16 July, sailed out of Zadar, Croatia.

In 2012 the Youth Worlds heads to Dublin Bay in Ireland, followed by Limassol, Cyprus in 2013 and Tavira in Portugal 2014.

In advance of the 2011 ISAF Annual Conference in Puerto Rico, ISAF is inviting bids to host the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships from 2015 onwards.

ISAF strongly encourage countries from non-European countries to bid to host the ISAF Youth Worlds as the last few championships have been held on European waters.

All ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs) are invited to bid for the event. MNAs interested in bidding should contact the ISAF Secretariat here to receive the bid manual.

The deadline for bids is 17 October 2011. Bids will be reviewed by the Youth World Championship Sub-Committee during its meeting on 5 November 2011 at the ISAF Annual Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

About The ISAF Youth Worlds

The ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship is ISAF's longest running event, having taken place every year since the first Youth Worlds hosted by Sweden in 1971.

Since 2003, the ISAF Athlete Participation Programme (APP) has assisted young athletes from developing sailing nations to attend the ISAF Youth Worlds by providing funding and coaching support.

The APP has directly supported the participation of over 140 sailors and helped introduce 12 new nations to the Championship, further spreading the appeal of youth sailing's premier event.

France is the current holder of the Nations Trophy, awarded annually to the top performing nation at the Youth Worlds.

Past notable winners include American's Cup skippers, Russell Coutts (NZL) and Chris Dickson (NZL), Volvo Ocean Race sailor Stuart Bannatyne (NZL) and many Olympic Champions including Robert Scheidt (BRA), Ben Ainslie (GBR), Alessandra Sensini (ITA) and Iain Percy (GBR).
