The US Youth World Team members qualified after winning a selection regatta previously determined to be a qualifying event. The members of the team are as follows and will compete in the following events:
Paige RAILEY is the only team member who has already represented the USA at an ISAF Youth World Championship and this will be her fourth appearance - an incredible achievement. Railey's first Youth Worlds was in 2002 when she picked up a bronze medal sailing a Byte, in 2003 she improved on that and won the gold medal in the Laser Radial but in 2004 finished a disappointing seventh in the same class. With the selection of the Laser Radial as the women's single-handed equipment for Beijing, Railey is also competing on the senior circuit and at the first release of the rankings for the class she came out equal first after victory at the ISAF Grade 1 Rolex Miami OCR. She is now ranked at seven.
The seven athletes of the 2005 US Youth World Team will be accompanied by US SAILING's Youth Development Coach Mike KALIN (Cambridge, Mass.).
With the dedicated support of sponsors Rolex Watch USA, Nautica, Vanguard Sailboats, Zodiac of North America, Sperry Top-Sider, New England Ropes, Team McLube and Vineyard Vines, team-members will travel to Korea in mid-July.
