The young Australian skipper swept past Baird three races to one in the first-to-three- final. He has now won the event twice, his first victory coming in 2000.
Spithill only reached the second round of the competition thanks to a repechage opportunity after a dismal start to the event saw him end the round robin with a score of 3 wins and two losses. He qualified for the quarter-final by the skin of his teeth but from that stage considerably lifted his game.
Ed BAIRD had an easier route to the final, qualifying for the quarter final stage easily and subsequently being first to reach the semi-final. At this point Spithill peaked and Baird could not match the young Australian.
Poland's Karol JABLONSKI, Member of Polish Challenge for the 2007 America's Cup, defeated Swede Bjorn HANSEN 2-0 in the petit final to claim third place.
