Berlin Match Race 2004

With one day to go till beginning of the 13th Berlin Match Race, the organising yacht clubs of VSaW and BYC, proudly presented the 12 competing teams out of six nations during a press conference yesterday evening.
Several top match racers, including America's Cup winner Jochen SCHUEMANN (GER), former match race world champion Karol JABLONSKI (POL) and the current no.4 of the world match race ranking list Mathieu RICHARD (FRA) will be challenged by the Germanys match racing elite. That includes local Stefan MEISTER who is currently ranked on place 23 in the world and Andreas WILLIM, who just won the German nationals on lake Wannsee.

The racing on lake Wannsee takes part from Friday to Sunday, 05 -07 November 2004 and will according to a long tradition be sailed on H-Boats.

Two weeks ago the eightfold German match racing champion Marcus WIESER, who won the last year's event for the 4th time, came to Berlin to practise for this year's event already.

But who knows if that training makes him good enough to defend his title against the Danish Lars NORDBJARG (world ranked no. 12) or gold medallist in 470 class Jordi CALAFAT from Spain? Also runner-up Jan-Eike ANDRESEN (GER) and crew, that won the qualifier event two weeks ago, is looking forward to make their way through to the final. All the way from New Zealand came Simon MINOPRIO who completes the fleet of young match racers this weekend.

Hence, we can expect some exciting racing and closely fought matches.
