Yachting New Zealand

Yachting New Zealand announced today that the Chief Executive since July 2000, Simon WICKHAM will be leaving in February next year.

Wickham has secured the role of Chief Executive of the Trusts Stadium in Waitakere City where he will lead a team responsible for the development and management of the recently opened Stadium.

Yachting New Zealand Board Chairman, Arthur STEWART announced Wickham's decision to Staff and fellow Board members yesterday.

'Obviously we are disappointed to lose him but we knew at the time we recruited Simon, because of his ambition we would have him for about 4 to 5 years, Simon has always been upfront about that' noted Stewart. 'He has unquestionably achieved a great deal for the sport of yachting and Yachting New Zealand during his time at the helm and he leaves us with the organisation's goodwill and best wishes'.

Wickham noted 'the time was never going to be right to leave, however Yachting New Zealand has recently put in place sound strategic thinking and planning that I am sure will see the new CEO off to a great start and able to develop our business further in future. I'm excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for me personally and I leave Yachting New Zealand in good health so I think it's as good a time as possible to hand over the helm to someone else.'

Wickham leaves Yachting New Zealand on February 12 and will compete in the Two-man Round North Island Yacht Race before starting his new post on March 7 at the Trusts Stadium.
