Wind Plays Tricks On PWA Riders

PWA World Tour 2005 – Costa Brava
Costa Brava, Spain

The first day of Super X competition yesterday was characterized by variable winds, unashamedly teasing the riders. After the predicted morning winds failed to materialize, an increasing thermal breeze lured the reigning Super X champion Matt PRITCHARD (USA) out on the water.
It turned out to be in vain, as the wind backed off again shortly after and sailors were back in the holding pattern.

Several hours later the wind swung unexpectedly from side onshore from the right to side onshore from the left and picked up significantly, sending the entire fleet hurrying for their gear and out on the water. While the course was being set by the organization, the riders made the most of the light conditions, but unfortunately it was not to be. As the afternoon progressed, the wind dropped again as quickly as it came, leaving the first day of the 2005 Catalunya Costa Brava PWA Super X World Cup without an official result.

'When you’re sailing by yourself it’s alright, but with nine other guys around you it’s just too light', explained John SKYE (GBR).

Today’s skippers’ meeting is scheduled for 1000 hours local time with a first possible start at 1030, although as yesterday demonstrated, conditions in the bay of Roses can change unexpectedly at any minute.
