Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006

One year from today the starting gun will fire to commence leg one of the Volvo Ocean Race 2005 - 2006. To coincide with this, the Board of ING Real Estate is proud to announce their support of the all Australian Premier Challenge entry to the race.
This support will enable Premier Challenge to confidently build their new Volvo Open 70. Headed by Grant WHARINGTON, the syndicate has an abundance of yachting experience as well as undisputed success in the business and campaign management arena.

On the water, Wharington is flanked by world-renowned sailor Ian 'Barney' WALKER, an experienced tactician and Volvo Ocean Race veteran. Barney has already circumnavigated the world twice and is considered to be one of the most talented offshore competitors in the world.

The race-boat has been designed by Don Jones, designer of the highly innovative, extremely successful super-maxi yacht 'Skandia', Wharington's current racing yacht which he is currently using for crew trials and training for Premier Challenge.

ING Real Estate's Australian Managing Director of Development, Mark Broomfield, says the rationale for the support for Premier Challenge is the synergy seen between ING Real Estate's business and participation in this race, often dubbed the 'Everest of Sailing' - Strategy, Innovation, Communication, Commitment, Client Focus, Sustainability, Risk Management, Execution, and last but not the least The Value of Team Work.

'As Premier Challenge's first sponsorship partner, we are delighted that we have been able to remain consistent with our commitment to create value, enabling this team to build their racing yacht to the highest possible standard, alleviating any financial concerns. We look forward to welcoming Premier Challenge as the first yacht to enter Melbourne's Waterfront City, the host port for the Australian Volvo Ocean Race stopover in January 2006.

'We will use the opportunity to further unite our global team of three business lines, all of whom will have a presence in Australia in 2005, creating an unrivalled synergy in the Real Estate Sector across Investment Management, Finance and Development.'

Wharington is extremely pleased to welcome ING Real Estate as the first major sponsorship partner for Premier Challenge. 'Their investment is a great boost to our syndicate plans, the future looks bright and above all, we remain determined to win the Volvo Ocean Race 2005 -06, for Australia and for our partners,' he said.
