Berlin Match Race

Jochen SCHÜMANN, Germany's best ever sailor with 4 Olympic Medals and Skipper of Team Alinghi, yesterday defeated the Danish skipper Lars NORDBJAERG 3-0 in the final, Nordbjaerg is ranked fifth in the ISAF World Match Race Rankings.
Although the outcome had been predicted by the massive Spectator Fleet of this cold November Day, Nordbjaerg had several opportunities to score points, which eventually went all to Schümann in close battles. In the Petit- Final Karol JABLONKSI of Poland defeated French top skipper Mathieu RICHARD by 2-0.

The four Semi- Finalists before faced a strong fleet of 12 Teams which included of course Germanys Top Sailors like Markus WIESER, Olympic Sailor Stefan MEISTER and the top of the latest National Champs Andreas WILLIM and Jan- Eike ANDRESEN. They were joined by Olympic Sailing Legend Jordi CALAFAT, now strategist of Team Alinghi, Simon MINOPRIO of New Zealand and Ian WILLIAMS of Great Britain. Local H Boat hero Hansjürgen SWOBODA made racing interesting when he kicked out Ian WILLIAMS in the first round robin.

Additional a huge spectator crowd and many media representatives proved that the Berlin Match Race is one of Germanys leading Match Races. Past Winners include international Top Racers as Markus WIESER, Jesper BANK and Jesper RADICH.
