Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

Konica Minolta, the New Zealand super maxi owned by Stewart THWAITES, arrived into Sydney in the early hours of this morning.
Her stealth arrival through Sydney Heads during the night meant that she had to remain just outside Watsons Bay so she could clear Australian Customs at 7am this morning before finally making her way to her home for the next five weeks, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in Rushcutters Bay.

Konica Minolta left Auckland, New Zealand, for her journey to Sydney last Tuesday 16th November. The trip, which took just over six days, was by all accounts quite a slow one, with an average boat speed of 8 knots for the duration of the trip. Conditions were described as 'ideal but almost too light, we did a lot of motoring, we just about ran out of diesel,' said crewman Alex NOLAN, 'all in all lovely sailing' he continued. She had aboard for the delivery to Australia a crew of 11.

Konica Minolta is the first of the super maxis to arrive in Sydney. The first opportunity to see her back on the starting line in Sydney will be this weekend, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28, competing in the Savills SORC regatta, followed by the Canon Big Boat Challenge, Friday 10 December, then the Rolex Series, Thursday 16 - Sunday 19 December, culminating with the 60th anniversary Rolex Sydney Hobart Race which starts Boxing Day, Sunday 26 December.
