Hobie Asian Championships
Hong Kong

The inaugural Hobie Asian Championships will be hosted by the Hong Kong Hobie Club from 7 to 9 October 2005. The event builds on the success of the previous ten editions of the club's annual 'Hobie Asian Classic' which has consistently attracted entrants from around the region and further afield.

With the endorsement of the International Hobie Class Association (IHCA), the Hobie Asian Championships is set to be the major annual Hobie regatta in Asia. This year's event will be the perfect warm-up regatta for teams competing in the 2005 Hobie 16 Worlds and the 2005 South-East Asian Games. While the 2006 Hobie Asian Championships will be a 'must do' regatta for any Hobie 16 teams hoping to compete in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.

Races will be held off Hong Kong Island's Tai Tam Bay, an area that reliably provides some of the best sailing conditions in China's Special Administrative Region. The focus will be on providing the Hong Kong Hobie Club's usual blend of friendly but highly competitive racing, with social functions taking advantage of Hong Kong's famous nightlife.

A number of competitive boats will be available for charter and Hobie Cat Australasia has agreed to support the event with new Hobie 16s for international entries.

The regatta will remain in Hong Kong in 2006, and then travel around Asia. Taal Lake Yacht Club in the Philippines and Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Thailand have already expressed interest in hosting the 2007 and 2008 Championships.

Notice of Race, charter details and full schedule will be available on the event website via the link below.
