With Sean LANGMAN's AAPT just a few miles astern, Wild Joe enjoyed a fast final sprint in a 12-15 knot sou'easter to cross the finish line off Alexandra Headland at 20:17:45 AEDT this evening.
Owner Steven DAVID, a Sydney businessman, wasn't on board for his boat's first Sydney Mooloolaba Race but he assembled a top crew and they, and a bit of luck, have delivered him a fine piece of silverware.
The first offshore racing yacht built with designer Reichel/Pugh's new CBTF (canting ballast, twin foil) concept, Wild Joe, formerly Wild Oats became the fastest offshore racing 60-footer in the world under the ownership of prominent Australian winemaker Bob OATLEY.
Under Steven DAVID's ownership, the Reichel/Pugh 60, was named overall winner of the prestigious Rolex Trophy, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race lead up regatta, and now she has claimed her first major ocean race line honours victory.
Just over 15 minutes later, Langman's AAPT crossed the finish line to be the second finisher to take an elapsed time of 2 days, 7 hours, 33 minutes and 30 seconds.
