It is with great sadness that ISAF announces the passing away of Lionell VAN DER HOUWEN (FRA). Lionell passed away suddenly while on holiday with his family in Italy, aged 42 years.
He was involved in many areas of sailing, as an event organiser, competitor, coach and umpire. For several years he organised the Antibes Cup, an ISAF Graded match race event. In addition Lionell ran the Federation Francaise de Voile's training centre in Antibes. A top level sailor, Lionell competed with the French team in the 1991 and 1993 Admirals' Cups and in the 1992 America's Cup as bowman for the Ville de France team. More recently Lionell was appointed as an ISAF International Umpire in 2002.

He will be sadly missed by fellow IUs and the staff who knew him at the ISAF Secretariat. ISAF sends sincere condolences to Lionell's family and friends.
