Tornado European Championship
Gran Canaria

The Australian entry of Darren BUNDOCK and John FORBES are maintaining their lead in the open event (for European and non-European entries), while Mitch BOOTH and Herbie DERCKSEN have taken the lead in the Europeans (European entries only).
The Dutch team of Mitch BOOTH and Herbie DERCKSEN are ranked first in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings and were silver medallists at the 1996 Olympic Games in Savannah, USA.

The day started with excellent sea and wind conditions, blowing from the northeast. The day began with a force 2 (8-9 knots) and gradually increased to a force 4 (13-17 knots). Sailing became difficult for the 51 participants from 20 countries due to short chop off Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

It wasn't the best day for the Spanish team of Fernando ECHAVARRI and Antón PAZ who after placing 10 and 16 have dropped to fourth overall. The Gran Canaria team of José María PONCE & Ramón ILLÁN took a fifth moving them up to 19 overall.

After six races, today is a layday, with racing continuing tomorrow through until Saturday, when the Tornado European Champion and the Open International "Mats Nyberg Trophy" winner will be decided.
