Sensini Wins on Day Two

Warm sunny conditions, but light air, greeted the sailors on day two day. The so-called "Ora", the typical southerly breeze of Lake Garda, didn't reach its normal strength and by 3.30 pm (local time) it had already started to die, exactly like Tuesday.
In the afternoon the Race Committee was able to complete only one race, while during the morning the northerly breeze "Peler" enabled the competitors to sail some good races. In the 49er fleet, Italian brothers Pietro and Gianfranco SIBELLO are leading ahead of Luca and Manuel MODENA (Italy) and Ruegge - Steiner (Switzerland). The Sibello brothers, already selected for Athens 2004, have five victories and one loss.

Three races have been completed by the 470 fleet and with a second and two fourths, Tomasz STANCZYK and Tomasz JAKUBIAK (POL) are leading. They are followed in the overall rankings by two Italian teams - Enrico FONDA and Pietro ZUCCHETTI with an eighth, a fourth and a first and Igor BUCHBERGER and Nicodemi with two fifths and a third.

In the women's 470 fleet, Vesna DEKLEVA and Klara MAUCEC from Slovenia are leading with an eighth and two seconds ahead of the Austrian team of Sylvia VOGL and Carolina FLATSCHER and Elisabetta SACCHEGGIANI and Miriam CULTOLO from Italy.

In the Finn, Rafael TRUJILLO ESP is leading with a fifth and first placing, followed by Nenad VIALI (CRO) with a fourth and a second and Ali Enver ADAKAN from Turkey lies in third with a first and a sixth.

The Yngling fleet have completed four races and with a second, two thirds and a first it is Stegenwalner-Grunow-Koschinsky from Germany leading ahead of Giakoumidou-Dimitrakopoulou-Mantzaraki from Greece and the Russian team of Skudina-Lartseva-Krutskih.

In the Star, Heiner-Breuseker (NED) are leading after four races just three points ahead of the Italian team of Francesco BRUNI and Vigna Guido ANTAR. 1991 Star Class world champion Roberto Benamati from Italy is in third place.

In the Women's Mistral, Alessandra Sensini (ITA), gold medallist at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, is leading with two wins and one second, followed by Flavia TARTAGLINI (ITA) with a fourth a first and a third, and Romy KINZL from Germany with a second and two fourths. The Men's Mistral have also completed three races and Julien SAVINA (FRA) is leading head of Toni WILHELM (GER) and Moritz MARTIN (GER).

In the Laser fleet, Diego NEGRI from Italy is in the lead ahead of Felix PRUVOT (FRA) and Daniel BIRGMARK (SWE). In tne Europe class, Lenka SMIDOVA from Czecoslovakia is dominating after a shaky start. A seventh and three firsts puts here eight points ahead of Weronika GLINKIEWICZ (POL) in second. Sophie DE TURKHEIM (FRA), the winner of race one is in third.
