Tracy EDWARDS and her team at Quest International Sports Events have announced the preliminary details and proposed start dates of 2 Oceanic races for the larger variety of multihull and monohull, The Oryx Cup and The Quest 2006.
Edwards shook the world of sailing last year when she announced a four-year £38 million sailing programme with The Gulf State of Qatar and the establishment of two new events in the sailing calendar; The Oryx Cup in 2005 and The Quest 2006. In January 2005, The Oryx Cup, a new non-stop global race will start from the UK and end in the UK. The prize for first place in this race will be the biggest cash prize in sailing history - a massive US$1 million.

The Oryx Cup will start from the Solent on Sunday 23 January 2005 at 1100 hrs. This will be a non-stop round the world race, finishing in the Solent and open to multihulls of LOA 100 feet and greater and monohulls of 90 feet and greater. ISAF Category C Advertising and ISAF Category Zero Special Regulations will apply modified as appropriate in the Notice of Race. This information is provisional. The organisers expect World Sailing Speed Records to be broken in this event.

The Quest 2006 will start from Doha, State of Qatar, on 20 December 2006 and will race round the world in several stages (to be announced by late summer 2004) to finish in Qatar. A feeder race from the Solent will be organised to start in October/November 2006, probably via the Cape of Good Hope. These events are open to multihulls of LOA 100 feet and greater and monohulls of LOA 90 feet and greater. ISAF Category C Advertising and ISAF Category Zero Special Regulations will apply modified as appropriate in the Notice of Race. This information is provisional. The organisers expect World Sailing Speed Records to be broken in this event.

Both of the events will be repeated on a 4-year cycle and further events are planned to take place for boats greater than multhihull LOA 100 feet and monohull greater than 90 feet.
