2012 Olympic Games

The nine applicant cities for the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012 must return the questionnaire that the IOC asked them to complete by today, 15 January 2004.
Paris (FRA), Leipzig (GER), New York (USA), Moscow (RUS), Istanbul (TUR), Havana (CUB), London (GBR), Madrid (ESP) and Rio de Janeiro (BRA) are in the running to take the next step: to convert from an "applicant city" to a "candidate city".

Detailed information
The questionnaire contains all the useful information in relation to the cities' reasons for organising the Games. It develops the general concept and provides figures on the support of the government and population. The practical aspects of organising the Games have been subject to an initial analysis: this covered traffic, transport, accommodation, security, finance, sporting infrastructure and the environment.

Candidate cities named in May 2004 in Lausanne
This document, of nearly 70 pages (25 questions), will enable the IOC Executive Board to check that the applicant cities have submitted a file that is in line with the responsibilities set out by the IOC. It is an important evaluation with a view to deciding on the list of candidate cities. This decision will be taken at the IOC Executive Board meeting on 18 May 2004 in Lausanne.

July 2005 election in Singapore
The election of the city that will organise the Games of the XXX Olympiad will be held during the IOC Session in July 2005 in Singapore. The candidate cities will, in the meantime, have the possibility of taking part in an observers' programme at the next Games in Athens.
