GBR skipper, Adrian STEAD and French skipper, Jimmy PAHUN have announced this week core members of their crew for next year's inaugural Timberland Euro Prix.
Joining the formidable team of Adrian STEAD and Glynn WILLIAMS will be Volvo Ocean Race sailor Tim POWELL, as one of the helmsmen. Two of Stead's fellow GBR Challenge team members Jules SALTER and Richard SYDENHAM provide another two key elements to the team, joining as navigator and trimmer/helm respectively. World-class trimmer Andy HEMMINGS is another important appointment to the team having many years of inshore and offshore racing experience.
A fundamental aim of Timberland Euro Prix is to help develop the next generation of sailors. To this end, two of the crew at any one time must be under 23. Andy CLARK, 21, is the first youth sailor to be announced. Stead commented, "I was very impressed when Andy joined us on the Euro Prix 45 a couple of months back. He has good Farr 40 experience and holds his Yachtmaster ticket. He was useful all around the boat and will be an important element of both our on-water and on-shore team. It's great to have him on-board."
Lining up against the British, the French team headed by Jimmy PAHUN, has just as many stars. Thierry BRIEND of Le Défi, Trimaran Foncia and the Tour de France à la Voile, will join as Crew Boss. Fredéric GUILMIN, America's Cup, Tour de France à la Voile, trimaran and Olympic sailor joins as main sail trimmer. For helm and tactics, Jimmy has appointed Sebastien COL and Damien LEHL, who both have America's Cup, Tour de France à la Voile and trimaran experience.
Jimmy hopes to further strengthen his team with experienced offshore sailors. Jimmy commented, "I hope that the likes of Jacques CARAES and Nicolas PICHELIN will join the team. Both are top gun navigators, who sailed on the giant catamaran Club Med, and would be invaluable to us."
