The XII Paralympic Games in Athens are approaching fast. In order to raise awareness of the Paralympic Movement, the Paralympic Games and the International Paralympic Committee, the IPC will have an "IPC Information Area" in Athens.
The area will be located in the international zone of the Paralympic Village in Athens and will be accessible to media representatives, athletes, and others with appropriate accreditation.
To illustrate the history and development of the Paralympic Movement, the IPC urgently need any type of memorabilia which can be exhibited in the Information Area.
We are particularly interested in objects from the early Paralympic Games (starting with the first Stoke Mandeville Games in 1948 which led to the first Paralympic Games in Rome 1960) such as:
- Footage of Paralympic Games
- Photographs of Paralympic Games events (competitions, medal ceremonies, opening and closing ceremonies)
- Brochures, guides, etc.
- Sports equipment (wheelchairs, nets, balls, etc.)
- Clothing (bibs, jerseys, etc.)
- Souvenirs (postcards, pins, stamps, stickers, etc. with Paralympic images).
You can either donate the memorabilia to the IPC or provide it as a loan for the "IPC Information Area" in Athens only.
If you do not want to send the object by mail, IPC would be glad to receive at least a digital image of it (jpg.file). Should you attend the Games in September 2004, you could then hand in the objects to the "IPC Information Area" in Athens. With your donation or loan you could help to promote Paralympic heritage and enrich Paralympic patrimony!
