SPA Regatta

On Saturday, the fourth day of the ISAF Grade 1 SPA Regatta the fierce competition in most of the eleven Olympic classes was the main reason for the heated atmosphere.
Mistral sailor Joeri van DIJK (NED) can put his board to rest and prepare for the European Championship which will be held from the 2-12 of June in Sopoi, Poland. Van Dijk won both races on Saturday, and is theoverall leader with 13 points. He is now unbeatable and takes the title with a day to spare.

In the 49-er class anything can happen. The overall leaders, Iker MARTINEZ and Xavier FERNANDEZ (ESP) had a bad day yesterday and finished 25 and 15 in racing Jonas WARNER and Peter Kruger ANDER (DEN) climbed from third to second position. Friday's number two, Michael HESTBEK and Dennis DENGSOE are now on third position.

Ross MACDONALD and Mike WOLFS (CAN) are still leaders in the Star class with 42 points. Behind them there have been some changes in positions. Roberto BERMUDEL de Cas and Pablo ARRARTE (ESP) are now in second place with 45 points. Third place is in the hands of Peter BROMBY and Lee WHITE (BER). They've got 47 points, equal with Mark NEELEMAN and Peter van NIEKERK in fourth place.

In the Europe class it's Siren SUNDBY (NOR) who leads and in the 470 Women class it's Lisa WESTERHOF and Margriet MATTHIJSSE (NED) who are on top of the list. It will be very hard for anyone to overtake them.

Until now the SPA Regatta has been great and everyone is ready for Sunday's climax. Full results leading up to the last race are available on theevent website at the address below.
