The World Sailing Speed Record Council have today announced the ratification of Frenchman Francis JOYON'S Single-handed Round the World Record.
At 0654 GMT on 5 February, Francis JOYON (FRA) aboard the 90 ft Trimaran IDEC crossed the line from which he started just under 73 days previously, to set the fastest single-handed circumnavigation of the globe.

The WSSRC announces the ratification of the following record:

Round the World, non stop, singlehanded.
Yacht: IDEC, trimaran
Name: Francis Joyon
Dates: 22/11/2003 to 3/02/2004
Start time: 7:59:54
Finish time: 6:54:16
Elapsed time: 72 days, 22 hours, 54 minutes, 22 seconds.

The previous record of Michel DESJOYEUX, 93d 3h 57m 22s in 2001,now becomes the "Round the World, non stop, singlehanded, monohull" record.
