The Race Committee was kept busy shifting marks as the wind didn't settle in but they eventually got away. The results again reflect the difficult conditions with.
The first race was won by David Peck, Nina Peck & JP del Solar (USA) followed by Bill Faude, Ernie Dieball & Jared Drake (USA) in 2nd and Luis Lebreiro, Marcelo Maia & Bernando Lebriero (BRA) in third.. The 2nd race was one by Juan Reid (CHI) after Tito Gonzalez (CHI) had to take an OCS. Reid is currently lying in 31 overall. In 2nd place was Jim Crane, Bill Crane & Jim Allen (USA) and in third was the Swiss team of Urs Wyler, Walter Dürr & Gilbert Dürr.
The results so far are clearly showing that consistency pays with George Fisher, Steve Hayden and Jim Crane sitting at one, two, three after 5 races, despite neither of them winning a race. Fisher indeed has not so far finished above 5th. There are however several boats who will be in contention after 6 races are completed and a discard is allowed. For example Mario Noto (ITA) currently in 15 has an OCS to throw out after which his worst position is 24th. Likewise Luiz Lebreiro (BRA) has two OCS but his other finishes are 4, 1 and 3.
Similar conditions are expected for tomorrow and there is still everything to play for.
