International Optimist Dinghy Association News

Over 1,500 Optimist sailors from over forty countries will participate in international regattas over the next two weeks.
Easter is a busy time for Optimist sailors all over the world with events taking in place in Argentina, Italy, Slovenia and the Netherlands.

IODA South American Championship
17-27 March, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Around 180 sailors from 14 countries will participate at the C.N. San Isidro in Buenos Aires. Racing started on Sunday and the big question is whether Ecuador, who took three of the top five places last year and were convincing at the recent Mar del Plata Week, can continue their recent dominance in the difficult currents of the River Plate.

Lake Garda Optimist Meeting
24-28 March, Lake Garda, Italy
The biggest single-class regatta in the world - last year 791 sailors from 22 countries took part - is expected to be even bigger this year. Already nineteen countries have pre-entered over 600 sailors.

Piran Cup
25-27 March, Portoroz, Slovenia
The Easter Regatta started life as an Austrian training camp but recent growth means that over 270 sailors from at least eleven countries are expected.

Braassemermeer Easter Regatta
25-28 March, Braassemermeer, Netherlands
This regatta celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and the entry limit has been expanded to allow 270 sailors. Last year eleven countries were represented with selected teams coming from most of northern Europe.

2-3 April, Stellendam, Netherlands
One week later than the others this event, organized by the Belgian Association but sailed at Stellendam in the Netherlands, enables some enthusiasts a second regatta.
