This evening four competitors had already finished their round robin matches. Out of nine matches, Chris DICKSON (NZL) has won seven, Sébastien COL (FRA) six, Iain PERCY (GBR) two and Dimitri DERUELLE (FRA) one. All the other competitors have one match to race tomorrow to complete the round robin.
ISAF World Match Racing Champion, and opening day star, Ed BAIRN (USA), only lost won match yesterday which leaves him with an impressive seven out of eight record. With a 78% record DICKSON is looking like the strongest challenger to him. The New Zealander is one of the emblematic figures of the America's Cup with four participations under his belt and a fifth as skipper and CEO under preparation with the American Challenger BMW ORACLE Racing. His win list is impressive, containing among others three world match-racing titles!
At 42, DICKSON is already a living legend of the America's Cup and sailing in general. He is one of the major favourites for this year's MIMR. Indeed it was DICKSON who dealt BAIRD his only loss so far, a result that is sure to give the Kiwi confidence should the pair meet again in the later rounds.
After 42 matches, there are three favourites: DICKSON, the Frenchman Sébastien COL and the American BAIRD. The Frenchman Philippe PRESTI, the Italian Paolo CIAN and the Englishman Ian WILLIAMS who have one match left to race have five, four and four points respectively. However with Mathieu RICHARD (FRA) and Staffan LINDBERG (FIN) on three points, the game is still on.
As the sun set on Marseille, some of the teams still have to win their place in the next round.
