Mistral World Championship & Olympic Qualification Regatta
Bodrum

Eleven Races have now been completed by the men and ten by the women at the 2004 Mistral World Championship in Bodrum, Turkey. Three more races were completed yesterday on a day that welcomed sailors with tough conditions and 25 knots of wind.
Julien BONTEMPS (FRA) performed superbly in the first race yesterday, winning the race with a huge margin over Jon Paul TOBIN (NZL) who finished second. Bontemps went on to win the second race aswell ahead of defending champion Przemek MIARCZYNSKI of Poland and a seventh in race eleven was enough to put him at the top of the leaderboard.

A three, two, one yesterday has put Pont at number two overall and just six points behind Bontemps. Nicolas HUGUET (FRA) slips to third after finishing ninth, nineteenth and tenth yesterday.

The women's fleet is being dominated by Italy's Alessandra SENSINI who has won six of the ten races, adding two more bullets to her score yesterday. Her worst result is an eighth which she discards with a third, leaving her with a massive points margin of 36 points over second placed Barbara KENDALL of New Zealand. The first race yesterday went to Alison SHREEVE (AUS) who lead out of the blocks. A close battle for second ensued around the course between Sensini and defending champion Lee KORSIZ (ISR) - Sensini was the eventual winner and took second.

Shreeve and Sensini swapped places for race nine and Sensini went on to win race ten aswell. Despite the recurrence of an arm injury ealier in the week, the 2002 World Champion Barbara KENDALL (NZL) has continued to sail consistently enough to lie in second overall, fourteen points ahead of Faustine MERRET (FRA) who is third.

The final races will be sailed today.
