Lake Garda offered one of its spectacular days of strong southerly breeze up 20-25 knots and sunshine to the ten crews competing in the ISAF Grade 1 event on lake Garda yesterday.
With the local "Ora" settling in at around 10am, the Race Committee was able to complete round robin one and start round robin two. The competitors, who left the dock at 10am, returned to shore after 7pm.
Jesper RADICH (DEN), third in the latest ISAF World Match Race Rankings, had a very good day, scoring 8 wins and suffering only 1 loss; to Paolo CIAN (ITA).
Current ISAF World Match Race Champion Ed BAIRD (USA), who climbed the rankings from
third to second position with Wednesday's release, scored 7 wins and lost only 1 match; to Radich. Mathieu RICHARD (FRA) was another skipper to race aggressively and was able to
win 6 matches, losing only 2.
In the overall results, Baird and Radich are leading, both with 11 wins and only 2 losses. Richard follows with 10 wins and 3 losses.
At the end of the second round robin, only the top four skippers will proceed to the semifinals. They will race against each other in a knock out series, first to score three points. Racing resumes this morning and continues through until Saturday, 1 May.
