In the framework of its policy of encouraging education and culture through sport in the Olympic Movement, the International Olympic Committee will organise a World Forum on Education, Culture and Sport named "Sports: A universal dialogue".
To be held in Barcelona, Spain, over three days, from 10-12 June 2004 and within the framework of the Universal Forum of Cultures 2004 organised by the Municipality of Barcelona. The provisional Forum programme and the accreditation form are available here.
Two parts and three themes
The event will be held in two parts. The first part of this Forum will take place on 10 June and will cover the subject "Education and culture at the Service of Olympism". The second part, which will take place over two days on 11 and 12 June, is organised by the Forum Barcelona 2004 and the Institut Nacional d'Educació Fisica de Catalunya (INEFC) supported by the IOC, and will be devoted to covering subjects related to "Sport and Sustainability" and "Sports and Conditions for Peace" respectively.
The aim of this dialogue is for men and women from every country, whatever their cultural background, to be able to state their different positions as administrators, artists, sportspeople, educators, researchers, teachers, journalists, trainers, referees, doctors, supporters or fans, etc., within the framework of a programme based on interaction, participation, statements of position, equality, equity and collective learning.
The Forum will be open to the Olympic family (International Sports Federations, National Olympic Committees, Olympic Games Organising Committees, recognised sports organisations and Olympic sponsors) as well as to representatives of governmental and non-governmental institutions dealing with sport and/or development and peace issues and the United Nations system. Academic institutions and media groups are also invited.
