Trofeo De La Reina

With two races programmed for the second day, the complete fleet left the docks at Real Club Náutico de Valencia in a light and fickle Southeast wind.
One general recall on the IMS 500 course, and two on the IMS 500, followed by a postponement due a shift, was the dominant feature during the start.

The IMS 500 has raced a really close regatta from start to finish -10,5 nm. length- with the twins GS 56 ft.- "Honda-X Prozac" and "Caixa Galicia"-, "TAU-UBS" and "Bribón" leading the fleet. During the race, the wind shifts 15º to the left, with the leading boats fighting on a really close group. The new Farr design "CAM", launched one week ago and skippered today by H.R.H. Felipe de Borbón, take the first position followed by the JV 46 "Telefónica MoviStar" with Pedro Campos at the helm -who has signed this year a fourth position on the Rolex IMS World Championship and a second place on the European Championship-. The third position was ocupped by the JV 57 "TAU- UBS" owned by J. Banderas.

The first race for the IMS 600 was an example of pressure with two general recalls and a postponement. The GS42R group - "Zurich", "Near Miss", "Memo Memulini", and "Telefónica MoviStar"- took the leader position from the start signal, with the twins JV42 "Forum Filatélico" and "Andalucia Sólo Hay Una", on the stern. The corrected time gave the win again to an exceptional "Zurich", with Calafat, Schuemann and Gouniot on board. Following the Spaniard, were the Uruguayan "Memo Memulini" and the Swisse "Near Miss".

For the second regatta the wind was up 10- 13 knots and the race committee signalled the fourth race of the Championship. Pedro Campos, at the helm of the "Telefónica Movistar" - IMS 500- won the race, 47 seconds over the second boat, the GS 56 ft. "Caixa Galicia" skippered by Roberto Bermúdez de CASTRO. On the overall classification, "Telefónica MoviStar" has ratified her leadership followed by the other Galician entry, "Caixa Galicia".

On IMS 600, The last race of the day continued commanded by a great "Zurich", who has kept the first position, followed by " Telefónica MoviStar" and "Near Miss".

The general public has enjoyed the exhibition given by the America's Cup boats - Prada and Le Defí- before the start of the races programmed. Full results are available on the event website at the address below.
