Valencia Plays Host To World Champions

Trofeo S.M. La Reina

The Trofeo S.M La Reina, currently in his sixth edition, will start today in Valencia with 150 entries coming from 12 different countries, the biggest numbers of entries in its history.
The fleet divided in seven groups of IMS classes with hot competition in both the IMS 500 and IMS 600 fleets.

In the IMS 500, the race office has 16 entries representing Norway, Australia, Great Britain and Spain. The new Farr 54 ft. "CAM", skippered by Fernando LEÓN, will race for her first test in a battle among others like the BC 56 "Caixa Galicia", the Proto 57 ft. "TAU UBS", "Bribón " skippered by H.M the King D. Juan Carlos and the new Offshore Team World Champion, "Telefónica MoviStar" with Pedro CAMPOS at the helm. Of the foreign entries, the BC 56 " X-Prozac", the Norwegian "Fram XV" and the australian IMS 50 "C-Quadrac" will flight too for the first position.

In IMS 600, 23 countries will represent six countries: Uruguay, Chile, Portugal, Switzerland, Denmark and Spain. The fleet on this group will see four GS42 - "Telefónica MoviStar" skippered by Vasco VASCOTTO, the Portuguese "Jazztel", the suisse "Near Miss" and the spanish "Zurich" will sail in a compact fleet , racing against boats like the JV42 "Forum Filatélico" or the BC 41 "Quebramar-Chrysler" among others.

Five races will be sailed in 3 days on windward-leeward courses with a length of 10 to 12 nm. The program for the first race, will commence at 9.30 a.m with a briefing, followed by race one at 14.00 horues today.
