The coastline of Valencia enjoyed two races yesterday for IMS500, IMS 600, Class C, Class D and IMS Club. The Race Committee, after a 10 minute postponement, signalled the first star at 14.30 in a sunny and hot day.
IMS 500 was the first class to start . With a 12-15 knot breeze from 80º the start offered an incredible moment. The JV 57" "TAU-UBS" got the best start with an excellent speed, as the gun was shot two boats tacked to the right -"Azur de Puig", the BC 49 skippered by Pichu TORCIDA, "Bribón", the JV 56 " skippered by H.M. King Juan Carlos and the JV57" "TAU-UBS".This group of 3 boats took a shift to the right that gave them a little advantage over the other competitors.
The Telefónica MoviStar, new ISAF OffShore Team World Champions, had a spectacular race on the 10,5 nm length windward-leeward course, gaining a significant advantage to finish in first position, followed by the JV 48,"Cristalbella" owned by John COOK (GBR), and "Azur de Puig"
In IMS 600, the last winner of the Giraglia Rolex Cup , the Swisse "Near Miss", is having an excellent regatta from start to finish, keeping a close battle between the four GS42 R for first position at all times.
After this international group - composed by "Near MIss" -Switzerland-, "Memo Memulini"-Uruguay-,"Jazztel" -Portugal- and Spain with "Zurich" and "Telefónica MoviStar", the JV52 "Forúm Filatélico" has followed nearly the hegemony leader group during the 10 n.m lengh.
"Near Miss" skippered by Thierry PEPONNET had a great battle against her twins, the Spaniard "Zurich" who has several Alinghi´s crewmembers like Jordi CALAFAT, Jochen SCHUEMANN and Yann GOUNIOT and and the Spanish team member winner at Sardinia, "Telefónica MoviStar", always over only by some lengths.
The second race of the day, had similar conditions than the first one, only been modificated by the results in both divisions. On IMS 500, "Caixa Galicia" won the second race, as "Telefonica Movistar" get the second place, followed by Italian "Honda X-Prozac".
For IMS600, the race was wider than the first with a bigger group racing for the podium. The authority was held by "Zurich" with Jordi CALAFAT at the helm, followed by her twin "Telefónica MoviStar" and "Memo Memulini" as the third.
