Goals:

Looking at the excellent list of Candidates, I felt it was time to give a more personal contribution to the sport I love using my experience. I would be honoured to be part of this Group.

My "late" candidature was made when I believed this group has the potential to face the coming years that are crucial for the "strategic positioning" of Sailing. The IOC and TV are driving the world of sport: we have to interface with this! We need to work hard, quickly and in an innovative way to give our sport the consideration it deserves.

I hope that the "focus" will be on individuals' personal histories which are made by "facts" and "skills" that cannot be changed at the last minute. Pragmatic experiences, from the very base to the highest route of our Sport are invaluable: ISAF needs these values to enter a new era.

Sailing Career

I started sailing aged 10 years old at the sailing School of my "home" Yacht Club, the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa.

Then I raced Flying Juniors, Finn , winning the ITALIAN Jr. Championship and then campaigned in the Star, winning the Italian Championship and the bronze Medal in the European Championship. At the same time I was sailing in the offshore IMS Classes, winning World , Continental and Italian Championships. Then I moved into the TP52 Class where I have been the helmsman and the team manager for 5 campaigns of the AUDI Sailing Team.

Afterwards I started sailing in the Melges 24 Class and more recently in the 32 Class, winning 8 national Melges 24 Class titles in different nations and most of the big Classical events like Miami Sorc, Key West Race and Kieler Woche. Bronze medallist at the last World Championship, I am currently ranked n.1 in the Melges 24 Class World Ranking.

Sailing Administration

My ISAF history, 1997 to present. I started in the ISAF Classes Committee where I still sit to represent the Melges 24 Class; from the ISAF Classes I've been elected as representative in the Keel Boat Committee where I served for 4 yrs. From there I went into the Equipment Committee where I served 4 years as members and other 4 as Vice Chairman. Key Achievements: beside the "11th medal for sailing" issue of which you can read below, I have been promoting the origination of the Olympic Classes Commission; together with the working party chaired by Bjorn Unger, I was the principal deviser of a World Cup project that hasn't been brought forward but that still is an actual matter to be implemented. Recently I served in the "Evaluation Panel" for the selection of the new Olympic Classes for Rio 2016.

Other Roles
President of the ISCYRA ( International Star Class Yacht Racing Association) - 1997 to 2004
Key Achievements: I introduced in the Class the use of National Letter Code on sails and the Weight Rule to bring it closer to the ISAF. The most remarkable personal achievement has been the success( working in a close relationship with ISAF President Paul Henderson) of the "11th Medal for Sailing" . This has been given by the IOC to ISAF to reinstate the Star Class into the program of the 2000 Olympic Games of Sydney and to reconfirm it for the 2004.

President IM24CA - 2010 to present
Key Achievements: led IM24CA to its Record Breaking Event: the 2012 World Championship in Torbole with 129 boats of 23 Nations and 4 Continents

MyYacht Clubs: I am member of 5 Yacht Clubs: the Yacht Club Italiano , my home town Club where I grew up and where I have been in the board for 8 yrs; the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo where I am in the board of directors at present; the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda; furthermore, I am honorary member at Yacht Club Cortina d'Ampezzo and Club Nautique de Nice.

Along this years I have organized almost 400 sailing events including more than 35 ISAF recognised Classes World Championships.
