Athens was named after Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. The city can chart it's history back thousands of years and today is the political, social, cultural, financial and commercial centre of Greece.
The city has a long association with the sea, sailing and the Olympic Games. The modern Olympic Games returned to it's roots in 2004 when the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad opened in Athens on 13 August. The Olympic Flame was lit by gold medal winning Windsurfer Nikos Kaklamanakis and sailing was also given the honour at the end of Games, when 470 gold medallists Sofia Bekatorou and Emilia Tsoulfa extinguished the flame 16 days later at the Closing Ceremony.

The deadline for submissions for consideration at the ISAF Annual Conference was 12:00 UTC 1 August 2010
Committee Members attending meetings scheduled as part of the ISAF Annual Conference meetings programme are not required to register in advance. Name badges will be available for collection from the ISAF Reception desk at the Conference venue hotel, the Divani Caravel Hotel, Athens, Greece. Committee members who are unable to attend are requested to inform the ISAF Secretariat.
It is the responsibility of all delegates to ensure that they have both a valid passport and entry visa if required..
Delegates who require an invitation letter from the Hellenic Sailing Federation should send their request to Ionna webmaster_eio@eio.gr
Ionna will need the following information in order to send the invitation letter:
1. Full Name and Title
2. Passport and date of expiry
3. Date of arrival and date of departure
4. Name of Embassy or Consulate where the visa will be issued
An ISAF Class may appoint one member to the ISAF Classes Committee Meeting taking place on Saturday 6 November 2010. There is a requirement for the appointed Class Representative who must have the approval of his / her Class Association to register by completing the on-line registration form below and submitting it to the ISAF Secretariat by Friday 22 October 2010. In addition, the name of the representative and the class they are representing must be notified by email to Norbert Marin in the ISAF Technical and Offshore Department by Friday 22 October 2010
On arrival at the Conference, appointed Class Representatives to the ISAF Classes Committee Meeting must collect their name badge from the ISAF Reception desk in order to attend the meeting. ISAF Conference packs and any invitations to social functions will also be given to appointed Class Representatives.
Failure to register by the requested deadline may result in not being accredited as a committee member and not receiving the ISAF Conference pack. ISAF reserves the right to refuse registrations from representatives who have not obtained class association approval.

A variety of accommodation is available for delegates and observers attending the ISAF Annual Conference as listed below. It is strongly recomended that delegates make their reservations as far in advance as possible as there are several congresses taking place at the same time and therefore demand for accommodation close to the ISAF Conference venue is very high.

The Divani Caravel Hotel is located in the heart of Athens close to excellent shopping, restaurants, museums and tourist attractions. The hotel will hold 100 rooms for ISAF delegates until 1 September 2010. ISAF cannot guarantee additional availability of rooms and it is strongly recommended that delegates wishing to stay at the conference venue hotel confirm their reservation as soon as possible.
The distance from the airport is approximately half an hour. The cost of a taxi from the airport is 35€ - 40€ during the day.
The Divani Caravel Hotel can arrange airport transfer service to and from the airport on request at a cost of 60€ daytime and 70€ at night one way.
