Venue

The Fremantle Harbours are situated on one of Western Australia's major train-lines and houses more than 1,000 marina berths, five boat launching facilities, 150 restaurants and numerous marine support services. The hosting of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships will also create a likely catalyst for further infrastructure and facility upgrades in and around Fremantle and its harbours.

The Event will be held on the Inner, Fishing and Challenger Harbours and Bathers Bay. The planned course areas for the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships are well proven sailing areas designed by a group of the world's leading sailors (past and present) and have been used for a variety of international, national and state one-design class championships.

For the Perth 2011 ISAF World Sailing Championships the Perth 2011 Organising Committee propose to have seven competition areas from which to choose on any given day.

During the prevailing sea breeze conditions (South Westerly) all course areas are to windward of the event village offering competitors a chance to tune upwind on the way to the starting areas prior to racing and an easy downwind sail back to the event village after racing.

When you look at Perth's outstanding record of securing and successfully staging world sporting events, it is apparent the city already has the credentials necessary to stage the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

The port of Fremantle has a rich maritime heritage and experience in hosting significant sailing events - look no further than 1987, when Perth hosted the first America's Cup to be staged outside of America in more than 100 years.

Perth is the only city in the world to be awarded the prestigious FINA World Swimming Championships and ITU Triathlon World Championships twice, and the Johnnie Walker Classic Golf Tournament - Australasia's most prestigious golf tournament - two years in a row. Other successful events held in Perth include the Hyundai Hopman Cup Tennis, Ironman Western Australia, the Red Bull Air Race, and the UCI World Track Cycling Championships.

Western Australia has much to offer event competitors and spectators. Historic Fremantle is only 30 minutes south of Perth, the magnificent Kings Park features a wide variety of Australian wildflowers, and Perth's many fine coastal beaches provide a wonderful playground for a wide range of family activities. Add all this to a warm climate, safe environment, clean air and a relaxed, cosmopolitan lifestyle, and you have a great city for an international sailing event.

Western Australia

Western Australia is famous for its blue skies, warm climate and white sandy beaches. It is a land blessed with some of the world's most precious natural phenomena including the dolphins of Monkey Mia, the annual Whaleshark congregation at Ningaloo, the 350-million-year old Bungle Bungle ranges and the towering Karri forests of the South West.

For those with time to explore, there is the chance to see some truly unique locations. Visitors can travel north to tropical Broome and experience the rugged beauty of the Kimberley and Pilbara regions, where they can hand-feed friendly dolphins and even swim with the majestic whale sharks. East are the goldfields of Kalgoorlie and south, the stunning beaches and world-renowned vineyards of the Margaret River region.
