Pre-regatta favourites Silver Panda remain undefeated after the second day of racing at the ISAF Team Racing World Championship in Gandia, Spain.
After completing the 64-race opening series at the Real Club Nautico Gandia the 17 competing teams were split into a gold and silver fleets yesterday and completed.
The GBR 2 team of Andrew BRYSON, Nicola RUSSELL, Matthew FINDLAY, Georgina CORLETT, Thomas HEBBERT and Susan SHORT and the USA 1 Silver Panda
team of Clay BISCHOFF, Lisa KEITH, Peter LEVESQUE, Elizabeth HALL, Colin MERRICK and Amanda CALLAHAN had gone through the opening day undefeated, so much attention was on their match on Wednesday morning. Silver Panda
, the current holders of both the Wilson and Hinman Trophies and runners up at the 2005 Team Racing Worlds, came out on top. They then went on to win their eight matches in the gold fleet to remain undefeated after two days' of racing.
Despite their setback, GBR 2 also performed well in series two, although they again lost out to their American rivals as well as the GBR 1 team of Peter BARTON, Andrew CORNAH, Graeme WALKER, Leo DIXON, Philippa GIRLING, Ben FIELD and Thomas FOSTER. That win lifted GBR 1 up to second overall after round one of series two, with USA 1 leading and GBR 2 in third.
USA 2 and GBR 3 occupy fourth and fifth place respectively, with the Kiwi NZL 1 team the best of the other nations in sixth. They are followed by AUS 1, IRL 1 and AUS 3. In the silver fleet, AUS 1 was a class apart with seven wins and no losses, whilst the ESP 2 where the best performers from the host nation. The Italians also sailed well with a 5-2 record whilst the Japanese teams remains winless.
Racing continues in Gandia on Thursday with the start of round two of series two.
