Disabled Sailing Decisions Made In Dun Laoghaire

The International Association for Disabled Sailing (IFDS) met in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland from 5 to 7 November after a busy year for Disabled Sailing,
IFDS Elects New President And Three Vice-Presidents

The International Association for Disabled Sailing (IFDS) AGM took place on Tuesday 6 November 2012 at the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Ireland.

The three nominees elected to the IFDS Executive Committee are:

• Wilfried Klein (GER);
• Brian Todd (CAN);
• Betsy Alison (USA);

Who will be joining:
• Bernard Destrubé (FRA);
• Henry Sleutel (NED);
• John Twomey (IRL).

The newly elected IFDS Executive Committee fulfilled its first task in electing Mr. John Twomey as President of IFDS. John is a long time Paralympic athlete, a successful businessman and member of the IFDS Executive Committee since November 2005. At a critical period in the growth of IFDS, no doubt John's knowledge and experience will be a great asset to the Association.

IFDS Announces Equipment for the Two-Person Keelboat for the 2016-2020 Paralympic Sailing Competitions

Over the past two years, a team of athletes, industry professionals and respected doctors conducted an extensive equipment evaluation process on three boats nominated by RNAs. IFDS recognizes and appreciates the cooperation, interest and efforts of all of the manufacturer's teams. The Equipment Evaluation Committee recommendation was accepted by the IFDS Executive Committee, presented at the AGM and endorsed by the IFDS Recognized National Authorities.

The equipment which will be used in the Two-Person Keelboat event for the 2016 and 2020 Paralympic Sailing Competitions will be the SKUD18, an Australian Mitchell/Bethwaite design, built by Access Sailing Systems.

The IFDS International Classification requirements for this class will remain unchanged. One crew member must be female, one must be Classified TP A, the other TP B.
