Sailing Career

Carlo Croce started sailing aged 6 years old in a Dragon with his father, before graduating to the smaller Optimist. He raced Flying Juniors, then campaigned a Star with his brother and narrowly lost selection for the 1968 Olympics. He then moved into the Flying Dutchman and he reprerented Italy at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics. After Olympic sailing, he developed a love of racing offshore, including the 3/4 Ton Cup 1/2 Ton Cup and 1 Ton Cup, often racing with Paul Elvstrom, who was a mentor to him. He has also competed in the Admiral's Cup, and numerous offshore races, including classics such the Fastnet Race and Giraglia

Sailing Administration

It was a natural step to become involved in the America's Cup, and in 1987 I was appointed CEO of Italia, going on to be involved in the 2001 Luna Rossa campaign, and President for the 2004 and 2007 Luna Rossa Challenges. A key part of my role was securing sponsors, and managing their ongoing involvement in our projects. The Volvo Ocean race has also been close to my heart, and I managed Giovanni Solidini's campaign, but despite raising EUR6.5 million, we were unable to meet the required budget to compete in the Volvo Ocean Race.
