A successful International Measurers Seminar was held recently in Rio de Janeiro in conjunction with preparations for the upcoming Pan American Games which will be held in Rio in July 2007. The Venue was the Yacht Club of Rio de Janeiro and was attended by a total of 12 participants. This is the first IM Seminar held in South America and was considered by all the attendees to be an excellent experience.
All of the participants will be involved in some way with measuring at the Pan American Games where they will be under the leadership of the Chief Measurer, Alex Finsterbusch.
The Seminar consisted of lectures using the ISAF material, measuring theory and practical application on sails, hulls and equipment. There was explanation of the ERS methods of measuring with practical examples as well as different types of procedures and techniques for non ERS Classes.
As part of the weekend the group used the upcoming Pan American Games measuring opportunity as a working example of how to best conduct the measurement for a major regional games. During this work the group drew upon the combined experience of the whole team including measurers for a number of previous Pan American and Asian games as well as numerous World Championships.
The picture attached shows most of the participants checking a Laser which is one of the Olympic and Pan Am classes.
ISAF wishes to thank the Brazilian Federation and the Yacht Club of Rio de Janeiro for their assistance in organizing a very successful event.
