After racing was abandoned yesterday due to foul weather and winds in excess of 25 knots, the 97 strong Fireball World Championship fleet got out on the water today and completed three more races to bring the series up to six.
The races were held today in conditions ranging from 10 – 15 knots. The first two courses today were triangles and the third a trapezoid.
The closeness of the series lead boats generated a highly competitive atmosphere, it was no surprise that the amount of OCS and Black Flag penalties were on the increase.
It was a good day for the Australian crews, albeit four different ones, who finished first and third in both the first two races, split by Shane MACARTHY and Roger GILBERT from Ireland in Race 4 and Tomas MUSIL and Jan DANEK (CZE) in Race 5. Europeans dominated Race 6 with Great Britain finishing first and second and MacCarthy visiting the podium again and finishing third.
The final day of racing continues tomorrow at 10.30 (local time) and it’s shaping up for an exciting battle for the title as only four points separate the top three crews.
